The close

Brent settled down 96 cents at $105.69 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate rose 40 cents to $94.14, CNBC reported.

Diesel relief looks small

Goldman Sachs estimated that the extra 800,000 tons of Russian diesel would lower wholesale prices by only $1 to $2 a barrel, according to CNBC. US diesel inventories are 14% lower than a year ago, the report said.

Why it matters

Tight diesel stocks keep freight and farm costs high even when crude eases, so small supply deals do little for inflation. What to watch: weekly US inventory data and any disruption to tanker traffic near Hormuz.
