Ballots and Balance Sheets: Markets Now Vote the Morning After
From São Paulo to Belgrade and from London to Menlo Park, this edition's stories share one theme: capital now gives its verdict on politics and strategy within hours.

The ballot
On Sunday Brazil re-elected Lula and Serbia threw out Vučić. By Monday morning New York had already priced Brazil: the largest US-listed Brazil fund closed down about 26%. Serbia's verdict will be priced more slowly, but it will be priced.
The budget
In London, gilt investors are telling John Healey before Wednesday's Budget what they will accept. The message is simple: keep the fiscal rules. A chancellor now negotiates with the bond market before he speaks to Parliament.
The build-out
In technology the verdict is just as quick. Neocloud shares fall on a single post about debt. Meta answers by asking shareholders for up to $95 billion rather than borrowing more. Verizon wins by renting its fibre to Amazon.
Our view
The common thread is that financing is now the decisive variable, for governments and for AI alike. Leaders who show a credible way to pay will be rewarded. Those who do not will find out the next morning.
