The return
Bloomberg News led its Monday bulletin with Machado's return to Venezuela. The BBC reported she arrived after nearly 11 months in exile, appearing first at a church in Barquisimeto, Lara state, before travelling to Caracas with a large caravan of supporters.
The politics
Her return puts direct pressure on interim President Delcy Rodríguez, whose government is backed by Washington, and could complicate the planned political transition, according to reporting by AP and the BBC.
Why it matters
Venezuela's oil output and any easing of sanctions depend on a stable transition. A popular opposition leader back on the ground changes the bargaining power in Caracas.
What to watch
How Rodríguez's government responds to Machado, Washington's stance, and whether a date for elections is set.
