The charge
Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, a Saudi national, was arrested on October 9, CNBC reported. FBI Director Kash Patel said he “allegedly concealed a covert recording device” in the executive conference room.
The company's response
OpenAI said there is “no indication” that model weights or code were taken and that Alfozan has been fired, according to the Associated Press.
Why it matters
The case shows that insider risk at frontier AI labs now extends to physical surveillance, not only data theft. What to watch: the charging documents, and any tightening of security rules for staff at AI labs.
